Other Blogs in Chile

This is in no way an attempt to give a grade to other people’s blogs. I just want to help guide people towards whatever it is they are looking for. If you have a blog and you would like to add it to my list, please let me know.

Notes from behind the language barrier at first glance her and my blog couldn’t be any different. Mine is in English and Spanish, hers is called Behind the Language Barrier but diversity is a good thing and it’s a good blog.

Corrugated City Matt writes a good blog about life in Valparaiso and organizes expat meet ups. He has also successfully dodged my invites to Ultimate Frisbee for almost as long as we played email tag before meeting each other, but I won’t hold that against him.

Chileloco I was thrilled to find another blog by a gringo that is written in English and Spanish. Lots of good info about skiing, ski resorts and Chile in general.

La vida dura dos días Not only has the author of this blog created a good blog about Chile she has succeeded at doing what many college professors and practically all high-school teachers here fail at: starting a dialogue among Chileans about important issues and some of the problems Chile faces. A lot –ok, unfortunately for chile, almost all- of the Chileans who comment on her blog live or have lived abroad but I still consider this dialogue to be very important. You can find the previously mentioned dialogue in the comments on her posts.

Smog: the small blog Most exchange students in the Valparaíso area go to la PUCV, I did for a semester. The author of this blog seems to have had a more “hard core” experience than the average exchange student since he went to Universidad Playa Ancha.

Ryan's Blog Ryan is no longer here but from about August 2005 to October 2007 he put out some good material about life in, Santiago Chile.

Southern Cone Travel I have never had the chance to travel further south than Chiloé. The author of this blog seems to know a lot about the places in Chile that I know nothing about.

Gringos de Mariman Some gringos decided to move to Pucón and start up a website and it looks like they are surviving.

Travels in Chile If you would like to learn a little bit about Chile but you find my posts a little too long this might be a good option. Blogs from Santiago:

This is not an attempt to generalize, but in fact an attempt to feign organization. Plus they seem to have formed their own gringa-bloggers-in-Santiago network so it seems suitable to give them their own group.
Next step: Chile
Love to travel Chile
Just Married Chilean Style
Transcultural Vogueing I saw one post in Spanish.
Girl Meets Chile
Musings form inside, outside, and underneath

As my blog is in Spanish and English I am looking for good blogs written in Spanish and by Chileans. If you know of any other blogs that analyze and or thoughtfully observe Chilean society and don’t have “how drunk I got last night” as their main theme, please let me know. Here is what I have found so far.

Sophil de l'leau This blog is in French and I don’t know any French but I though it would be cool to include a blog written in French as part of my list for people who do know French. I’ll periodically update this list but if that’s not enough blogs for you here is Matt’s rather extensive list of bloggers in Chile. http://bloggersinchile.blogspot.com/
